Winefest is seeking a part time Event Coordinator to assist in the planning and execution of our events. The ideal candidate has a flexible schedule, is organized, enthusiastic, personable, creative, fun, energetic, and the ability to handle multiple priorities


  • Assist and support Executive Director in planning multiple events from start to finish, within a short period of time
  • Generate new Ideas and suggestions to provide top notch experience for event attendees
  • Source and negotiate with vendors and suppliers
  • Coordinate operations
  • Assist in supervising staff
  • Ensure event is completed smoothly and quickly resolve any problems that might occur
  • Analyze the event’s success and prepare reports


  • Proven experience as an event manager
  • Skilled in project management
  • Computer savvy; proficient in MS Office
  • Outstanding communication and negotiation ability
  • Excellent organizational and prioritization skills
  • A knack for problem-solving
  • Customer-service orientation
  • A team player with leadership and interpersonal skills
  • BSc/BA in PR, marketing, hospitality management or related field is preferred


  • High season for Winefest events is June and September
  • A flexible schedule is imperative, with advance notice of dates of events
  • Annual contract with possibility for additional hours as needed throughout the year
    • April – June
    • August – September
  • In 2021, this person will ideally be hired in time to assist with fall events for September and October.
    • 10 – 15 hours per week September 1st– 17th
    • 50+ hours September 18th– 25th
    • TBD for October

Event Assistant Intern

The Des Moines Wine Festival Foundation is seeking an intern for August 2021 through October 2021, with the possibility of continuing through June 2022 (excluding Winter Break and J Term as necessary). The event assistant will work with the entire event team to execute events throughout the late summer and fall.

Duties will include, but are not limited to:

  • Recruit, organize and communicate with over 100 volunteers
  • Recruit and communicate with prospective wineries, breweries and food vendors
  • Manage licensing for participating vendors
  • Update website and other digital communications
  • Design collateral pieces for festival attendees, vendors, sponsors & patrons
  • Serve as a liaison for sponsors and patrons regarding their benefits

The qualified applicant will be detail-oriented, quick-thinking and able to retain a positive attitude under stressful situations. Strong writing skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office are required. Experience in inDesign and Photoshop are a plus.

10 – 15 hours per week
